Notes Aug. 29th Intro to Research Methods 1) Context is a set of circumstances or facts that surround an event/ situation.
*What major trends may have effected the author (political/social/economical/cultural)?
*How does the document fit into historical content?
*How does this document better our understanding of the event?
*Does this document help explain the cause and effect relationship of this event? 2) Thesis is a proposition stated or put forward for consideration, especially one to be discussed and proved or to be maintained against objections.
*Baby- by Justin Beiber. 3) Perspective is a way of regarding situations, facts, etc. and judging their relative importance. It is a proper/accurate point of view or the ability to see it
*Who is the author of the document (background, prejudices, biases, motives)?
*When was the document created (How does historical content affect the author/Was it prepared during the event or after? 4) Audience is a person or people that a product is written/geared toward. 5) Significance is the importance of an item or its impact.
Notes Aug. 30th
Today, we made basic information cards for Mr. Kyle.
Right after that, we read an article of Obama's speech about Hurricane Irene. Then we took a practice test on the Research Methods we learned yesterday using that article. After lunch we then took the actual quiz on the research methods.
Notes Aug. 31st
Today we started discussing the first theme for the regions, which is environment. We talked about York's envioronment, for example, we have sinkholes due to building on the farmlands, and it smelling bad around the school due to the Codorus Creek and the incinerator. We labeled a world map (get from Mr. Kyle) to study off of for next Friday's test on the 5themes. After lunch we went onto national geographic map maker and answered an interactive map activity worksheet (get from Mr. Kyle).

Today we went over conclusions that we made from the interactive map activity. We also recieved are graded research methods question paper back. Then we took notes on Human Rights and came up with a list of human rights as a group and then as a class.
Human Rights:
Question- what are the rights and responsibilities of a global citizen to promote an end to human rights violations?
Civil Rights vs. Human Rights:
Civil Rights-what you gain from your citizenship to a country(voting)
Human Rights- rights you are born with and they can't be taken away from you, everyone in the world is given these rights (breathing)

Take a right from the U.N. Declaration of Human Rights and...
1. Type the right into Wordle.net and print it
2. On the back, write a 25 word abstract of the right.
3. Find an example of a violation of the right and write a 100 word summary.
4. One paragraph about what that right means to you.
5. Create or find a picture and explain why that demonstrates
Today we went over a few of the Human Rights from the UN list. We were each given a right and started on the above. The assignments are due on Tuesday, September sixth.
